Placencia, fast becoming a prime destination for fishing enthusiasts world-wide, offers a variety of fishing adventures.

Over the past five years Placencia has seen a boom in the number of salt water fly fishers to the area, most who come for the heart-pounding thrill of hooking the elusive permit, tarpon, snook or bonefish - and getting the catch-and-release Grand Slam bragging rights! 

With this sudden demand for licensed experienced guides, the native fishermen of Placencia have met the challenge, and the word is out.

Placencia also offers plenty of other types of fishing.  For the novice, drop, or hand line, fishing for snapper, grouper and jack allows one to practice the art of the hitch.  Or fish the mangrove-shadowed Placencia Lagoon and the verdant rivers up and down the coast. Trolling inside the barrier reef for barracuda and king mackerel is very popular, and for the avid fishing diehard, trolling for bigger game fish like wahoo, tuna and dorado outside our Barrier Reef is on the rise.
